After having been closed since 2011, Dilworth Plaza, right next to City Hall, is at last re-opened. That's a stage under the canopy and plenty of table between that and the visitor's center.
That's the visitor's center in the background. This looks across to JFK Plaza, the place with tht Love sign.
This sprinkler area is just flat and dry most of the time, but sprays go up and down during hot periods. Formely, the plaza had lots of trees, but the ability to wet down the plaza goes a long way to making up for the lack of those.
And yet another view.
Of course, the water all dries off pretty quickly. Here, the kids are treating it like the seashore.
As you can see in the photos here, the plaza was much more complex than it is today. It had lots of depressions and elevations and fences. I like the much flatter version of today.
The small plaza inside City Hall has been jazzed up a bit. It used to strictly a pass-through kind of place.
Stadium-style seats and there was something that appeared to be usable as a stage across from them
Steps that get us down to the subway.
There are still some areas that are fenced-in and inaccessible to the public, so I suspect that they have a handicapped elevator hiding in those areas. No sign of public restrooms yet, but the City Hall restrooms are now very clearly marked, so that's an improvement.
