Rally for Senator Barack Obama
3 Oct 08
Abington, PA

Arriving
After the Presidential debate, during which Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) proved that he was quite comfortable with the issues of the day and that he had an easy command of all the relevant facts concerning them, his Vice-Presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) debated the Republican Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Both debates were boosters for the Democrats. The Republicans, at best, didn't embarrass themselves.

The rally was held in Abington, PA (About 15 miles North of Philadelphia) and was pretty well-attended. Our local paper estimated that we had about 6000 people there.
Barack Obama referred to one of Palin's statements (that she had made in response to the CBS anchorperson Katie Couric's interview of her), that of "I wanted to talk about Barack Obama increasing taxes, which would lead to killing jobs." Obama pointed out at the rally that a report on the economy had just come out that morning, saying that the US had just documented that it was suffering its ninth straight month of job losses.  BTW, this is hilarious!

We can really see the TV antennas here. Speaking of Couric's interview of Palin, some very interesting comments here as to how YouTube has affected TV News and campaigns. Broadcast TV has definitely lost its monopoly. Checking out this post, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. The case that the post makes is, essentially, that the traditional news media has done such an incredibly poor job of informing citizens, the raditional media is of course still competent to do things like sports, weather and traffic, but they've become pretty much useless for anything that requires some subjectivity.

Obama's opponent, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), has apparently decided that he has nothing positive to base his campaign for president on, so he's going all out on the negative campaigning. Here, he manages the amazing feat of condemning negative campaigning AND of being negative in the very same sentence!
from the bleachers
This was my vantage point. A close-in crowd with us other spectators further back. Sound was decent, at least. I notice all of the "blogger tables" in back of the crowd, set up so that reporters can type away at their laptops as the speech proceeds.

Convention speech
I wasn't close enough to get a picture of Obama speaking, so here he is at his Democratic Convention victory speech.

good time had by all
And a good time was had by all! We all finished up energized and ready to campaign to toss out the current party of the occupants of the White House and to get the Democrats in!
