Surveillance & the march
Note the fellow standing up between two of the traffic lights and taking photos. That's a police officer using a high-powered camera. Partially, the idea is simply to make us nervous and discourage people from attending the protest, partially the photos may go into a file and be used for evidence that *gasp* "You're a dissident!".
Assembly right before the march
We had a pretty good crowd for the march. CNN estimated 2500 participants, www.dc.indymedia.org estimated 3000. Pre-march estimates were of course much higher. Parade organizers were anticipating 20,000.
More-or-less solid line of people stretching as far as we can see.
Final assembly outside the Naval Observatory. My camera did something weird, so it came out fuzzy. Sorry 'bout that. Organizers spoke for around a half an hour, after which we cheerfully and peacefully dispersed, knowing that we may not have stopped the proposed war, but we at least made it clear that some of us will be there to make life difficult for the administation.
