The march begins. Filmclip (MP4)
of march.
The blogger and President of the Global Americana Institute Juan Cole presents
a video of himself and Juergen Todenhoefer being interviewed about
the 7th anniversary of the Iraq War by al Jazeera English. Cole also
reports on Gaza
as the Israeli siege tightens, continuing to make Gaza "the world's
largest open-air prison."
Filmclip of band playing. Rifts are opening
up between Israel & the US. Vice President Joe Biden dissed
by Israel.
Seems we
were sharing the city with the tea party protesters:
Tea Party protesters held a rally
outside the Capitol on Saturday,
which included speeches by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and actor
Jon Voight, and then proceeded into the halls to lobby members at the
11th hour.
Lewis was one of the leaders of the civil rights movement alongside
Martin Luther King. Jr.
Asked
if racial epithets were yelled at him, Lewis responded, "Yes, but it's
OK. I've heard this before in the '60s. A lot of this is just downright
hate."
That's my fellow FUMCOG
congregant and member of Military
Families Speak Out Celeste Zappala with the sign "We Mourn" about
her son, who was lost in Iraq in 2004. Two Gold Star mothers (Mothers
who have lost sons to war) from MFSO responded to Meaghan McCain's rather silly claim
back in September that:
"I mean, my
family — I have two brothers serving in the military.
One is about to redeploy to Iraq," McCain said. "My father is obviously
a famous war hero. No one knows what war is like other than my family,
period."
Iraq Veterans Against the War linked to this
piece from al Jazeera English:
As Barack Obama, the US
president, gears up for a further escalation
that will bring the total number of troops in Afghanistan to over
100,000, he faces a military force that has been exhausted and
overextended by fighting two wars.
Many from within the ranks are openly
declaring that they have had
enough, allying with anti-war veterans and activists in calling for an
end to the US-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, with some active duty
soldiers publicly refusing to deploy.
Veterans for Peace
members Jon Bjornson and Al Kovnet (Vietnam
Veterans).
According to the
WaPo, the marchers were "thousands." Our local NorthWest
Greens Party figured the number was around 10,000. Filmclip of marchers.

All in all, a good day! Well worth doing.
