NATIONAL and International Action:
Fundraising effort for Ezili's HLLN - Letter
From Cynthia
McKinney asking that you support Ezili/HLLN's work
Before she left for Gaza, Former Congresswoman
Cynthia
McKinney, one of HLLN
most treasured supporters and members, wrote a
letter to
assist us in our
fundraising efforts to keep HLLN and the
newspostings
going. At the time
Cynthia McKinney wrote us the fundraising
letter, we were
dealing with the
sudden death of Father Jean Juste and then the
subsequent
crisis surrounding
the UN shooting at Jean Juste's funeral in
Haiti, so it
never did go out as intended.
But it is essential, if we are to continue to
provide
this Haitian-led,
Haiti-capacity-building coverage that you won't
find
anywhere else on this
planet about Haiti by Haitians that we also
address this
critical issue of
financial support. But we need your financial
support to
keep this
work going, the website updated, the listserve
well-researched, the
FreeHaitiMovement campaigns growing, the Ezili
Danto
Witness Project operating,
as well as our grassroots reform project in
Haiti on
track.
We, at HLLN, are asking for your financial
support in
order to continue Ezili
Danto's Work. We must raise at least $60,000
dollars to
keep this work and our
programs going until the end of this year. So,
please
consider making an
immediate donation towards this goal, as well
as becoming
a paid subscriber.
Paid subscribers pay $12.50 per month/paid
quarterly at
$37.50 in an automatic
credit card withdrawal every three month
through our pay
pal account on-line.
You may also send your checks by mail. Donation
specifics
are readily available
on our website at:
http://www.margueritelaurent.com/donate/donate.html
And, we
have a non-for-profit sponsor.
If you have any
questions, please feel free to call
203 829 7210 or drop us an
email at erzilidanto@yahoo.com. If a
"certificate" icon comes up as you're
trying to make your donation, just accept the
"temporary certificate" and
continue. Our donation page is perfectly safe.

Nazareth District Court of appeal confirms
shameful
sentence against Sawt El Amel 8!
Appeal to the international labor movement
We bring to the attention of the international
labour
movement the following communiqué received from the organisation
Sawt el-Amel.
A trade union organisation fighting within the 1948 borders in defense
of the
rights of Palestinian Arab workers submitted to the Wisconsin plan, a
back-
to-work scheme breaching all the dispositions of ILO conventions.
"On 13 May 2008,
eight Sawt el-Amel activists
who had protested against arbitrary financial sanctions by the Israeli
Employment Service against hundreds of unemployed workers from the Arab
village
of Ein Mahel in Galilee in 1999, were found guilty of illegal assembly,
breaching public order, and - in some cases - assaulting a policeman.
All eight
defendants were sentenced to three years of probation and made to pay a
fine of
NIS 6,000 (US$1,450/EUR1,130). Sawt el-Amel's director Wehbe Badarne
was among
the convicted. In addition, four activists from Ein Mahel had to pay up
to
NIS1,000 in compensation to the police officers they allegedly
attacked. One of
the defendants was herself hospitalised during the event. The activists
appealed
against the decision, and on 24 February 2009 the Nazareth District
Court gave
its final judgment: guilty as charged. Sawt el-Amel is not intimidated
by this
verdict and will continue its struggle for the rights of workers and
the
unemployed."
These activists
have done nothing other than to
carry our their mandate as workers' representatives, a right that is
recognised
under ILO Conventions 87 and 98, which the State of Israel has ratified.
This iniquitous judgment aims to:
- limit, or even ban altogether, the activity
of the
eight activists concerned by having the threat of probation hang over
their
heads for three years.
- deprive Sawt el-Amel of its much-needed
financial
resources by imposing huge fines on it;
It's only objective is to deny the Palestinian
Arab
workers of Sawt el-Amel the right to carry out their trade union mandate
We call on the international labor movement:
- to address the Israeli authorities to the
sentences
against the members of Sawt el-Amel overturned immediately!
- to show its financial solidarity with
Sawt El Amel
trade union.

Palestinians, Jews, citizens of Israel, join
the
Palestinian United Call for BDS against Israel
Boycott from within for Boycott Divestment and
Sanctions
(BDS) for Palestinian rights.
We, Palestinians, Jews, citizens of Israel,
join the
Palestinian United Call for BDS against Israel1 and call on others to
do the
same.
As people devoted to the promotion of just
peace and true
democracy in this region, we are especially opposed to the
international
community's decision to punish the Palestinians in the occupied
territories and
withhold funds from them, after they exercised their democratic right
to elect
the government of their choice. At the same time, the international
community
continues, through economic investments in Israel, involving
governments and
international corporations, to actively support Israel's daily
violations of
international law and accelerated colonization of the occupied
territories.
We fear the potentially irreversible damage
created by
Israeli and international policy, and realize that the occupation will
truly
end only when its cost becomes higher that its gain for Israeli
society,
primarily for the Israeli elites. In light of attacks on boycott
supporters, we
emphasize that a critical stance against the occupation, including
explicit BDS
actions taken by individuals and organizations, are not Anti-Semitic.
On the
contrary, only resistance of this kind as part of the struggle for
peace based
on justice and equality will enable a common future for Arabs and Jews
in the
region. We stand against all forms of racism and oppression and support
and
encourage BDS actions as a legitimate political activity and necessary
form of
non-violent resistance.
We endorse the Palestinian call as it is, We
will act
inside Israel and outside of it to promote awareness and support for
BDS.
