ARREST BUSH! September 11th & 12th, Washington DC

We have printed 10,000 postcards with photographs of this banner drop and are asking folks to write statements on the back of the postcards expressing their feelings about the occupation, impeachment, or any one of their immediate concerns.   From September 11 at sunset to daybreak on September 12, activists will read those cards in an outside venue near the capitol building.   On September 12, many of us will take those postcards to Nancy Pelosi's office and read them aloud for as long as we are able.

ARREST BUSH! September 25th, New York City

The day that George W. Bush attends the opening of the UN.   The theme of this day will also be Arrest Bush! People lining the streets with this message, on their t-shirts and on their signs.    Non-arrestible scenarios, as well opportunities for those who are interested in civil resistance.
..... So please, email us at endlesswarmemorial@gmail.com or at arrestbush@gmail.com and let us know what's happening with you, how you'll be able to participate, and whether you wish to receive our email alerts.   We need to know that you are there and ready to act.

Legislative Action / KNOW THEIR NAMES, AND MAKE THIS TELEPHONE CALL! -800-878-0498
The House Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties*

The House Resolution 333 - introducing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Cheney - is sitting on this committee's table.  If you - or anyone you know - is represented by any of these congresspersons, it is critically important that you find out what your representative's stand is on this issue. If they are either not committed or are againstthe proceedings, they need to hear from constituents who support impeachment.  During the congressional break, call and write to their district offices.  Once Congress is back in session,   start calling their offices in Washington.  The toll-free number for the congressional switchboard is 800.828.0498.  This is a matter of urgent concern -- bringing impeachment proceedings against Cheney is an important first step in shining the light on the abuses and crimes of the Bush Administration -- and setting important ethical standards for future administrations.

The call to impeach is a focal point of our weekly phone-a-thons and we are finding this is something that resonates strongly with folks on the street.  One of our grannies was on a subway coming back from one of our actions -- she was carrying an ARREST CHENEY sign.  One of her fellow passengers spotted the sign and asked, "What about Bush?"  She turned the sign over to reveal the ARREST BUSH legend and the folks on the bus burst into applause.  The sentiment is out there -- we just need to help empower people to raise their voices.

Calling 1000 Grandmothers AGAIN!  CLOSE THE SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS

The Mc Govern amendment to the Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill failed in the House last June, although this time by just 6 votes.  The amendment would have cut off the funds for the operation of the notorious School of the Americas/WHINSEC and the transport of Latin American military and police personnel to Ft. Benning for the purpose of attending.   Hundreds of thousands have protested the existence of the SOA, aka School of Assassins, since 1990; many have been imprisoned for this effort, including two Chico residents, Dorothy Parker (2006) and myself (2007).

SOAWatch www.soaw.org is now organizing for the November 16-18 vigil and protest.  At the same time legislative lobbying continues throughout the summer as the 2008 Federal budget continues toward approval.
Please join 1000 Grandmothers this year, and let’s make it 10,000 grandmothers and others demanding justice, accountability and compassion from our government.  See www.1000grandmothers.net,* or call me, (530) 342-5902.
If you would like to participate by financial support for the expenses of demonstrating at Ft. Benning, contribute by Paypal from www.1000grandmothers.net* .

* GRASSROOTS SUCCESS STORY OF THE WEEK:
MONSANTO'S BOVINE GROWTH HORMONE BEING DRIVEN OFF THE MARKET

The Organic Consumers Association has been working to educate and mobilize consumers and retailers (for example Starbucks) to boycott milk and dairy products derived from Monsanto's recombinant (genetically engineered) Bovine Growth Hormone since our founding in 1998. The synthetic hormone is banned in most of the world, due to its links to prostate and breast cancer. Although it is still being injected into thousands of dairy herds in the U.S., grassroots pressure from health-minded consumers and public interest groups, like the OCA, have caused Starbucks, Chipotle, and many supermarket chains to put pressure on their dairy suppliers to stop using the drug. Monsanto is furious that OCA and our allies have educated consumers about the dangers of rBGH, but with recent polls showing 80% of consumers concerned about artificial hormones in their food, there's little that the biotech giant can do to stop rBGH from being driven off the market.

Here are some recent marketplace developments:
- California Dairies, which produces 8% of the milk supply in the US, has banned the use of rBGH.
- Food retail giant Kroger recently announced they will be banning rBGH in all of their stores by       February 2008.
- All milk produced in Oregon is now rBST-free.
- In May, Publix Super Markets, with 900 stores in the South, went rBST-free in its branded milk        products.
* Robert Fisk: Even I Question The 'Truth' About 9/11
I am increasingly troubled at the inconsistencies in the official narrative of 9/11. It's not just the obvious non sequiturs: where are the aircraft parts (engines, etc) from the attack on the Pentagon? Why have the officials involved in the United 93 flight (which crashed in Pennsylvania) been muzzled?   http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article18252.htm

* GREAT MOMENTS IN MILITARY PROCUREMENT:
1. BLOOMBERG - A small South Carolina parts supplier collected about $20.5
million over six years from the Pentagon for fraudulent shipping costs,
including $998,798 for sending two 19-cent washers to an Army base in
Texas, U.S. officials said. The company also billed and was paid
$455,009 to ship three machine screws costing $1.31 each to Marines in
Habbaniyah, Iraq, and $293,451 to ship an 89-cent split washer to
Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pentagon records show.

2. HOUSTON CHRONICLE - Korean War veteran Nyles Reed, 75, opened an
envelope last week to learn a Purple Heart had been approved for
injuries he sustained as a Marine on June 22, 1952. But there was no
medal. Just a certificate and a form stating that the medal was "out of
stock.". . . "I can imagine, of course, with what's going on in Iraq and
Afghanistan, there's a big shortage," Reed said. "At least, I would
imagine so."
The form letter from the Navy Personnel Command told Reed he could wait
90 days and resubmit an application, or buy his own medal. After waiting
55 years, however, Reed decided to pay $42 for his own Purple Heart and
accompanying ribbon - plus state sales taxes - at a military surplus store.

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/082407A.shtml
Julian E. Barnes and Peter Spiegel report for the Los Angeles Times, "The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is expected to advise President Bush to reduce the US force in Iraq next year by almost half, potentially creating a rift with top White House officials and other military commanders over the course of the war."

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/081807B.shtml
The Bill Moyers Journal says good-bye to Karl Rove, who "figured out a long time ago that the way to take an intellectually incurious draft-averse naughty playboy in a flight jacket with chewing tobacco in his back pocket and make him governor of Texas, was to sell him as God's anointed in a state where preachers and televangelists outnumber even oil derricks and jack rabbits."
